As usual, we will be accepting papers for both onsite and online presentation and discussion at the conference. Especially welcome are papers on the conference theme, as well as those relating to realism and ontology.
For those who are considering sharing ideas related to the conference theme: We are accepting contributions from critical realist and other perspectives that tackle questions about the relationship between philosophical principles and methodology in scientific inquiry.
We are looking forward to papers that extend theoretical understanding of these questions or provide examples of research that engages with and describes the process of operationalizing abstract philosophical ideas as part of an empirical project. Also valuable are papers not explicitly tackling this topic, but illustrating the relationship between philosophical principles and methodology that can serve as a springboard for a more explicit discussion of the role and value of a meta-theory in scientific inquiry.
“What are the implications of beliefs about ontology (the nature of reality), epistemology (how we know what we know), and axiology (the study of values) on theoretical and empirical social science research practice?”
“How do philosophical or meta-theoretical assumptions inform and shape our views about data, collection and analysis methods, the use of theory, or the overarching approach or methodology of a research project?”
“How do they provide a platform for emancipatory social science by supporting the work of description, causal explanation, and evaluation?”
As mentioned, we also welcome papers on other topics as well!
